Luther's Nottingham Program, which will be in its 45th year in 2016-2017, offers the rich opportunity to spend an academic year in England and study at the University of Nottingham. During this program, which is based on community, students live together in a flat leased by Luther College and have the opportunity to be involved in a community service project of their choosing.
A Luther faculty director lives in a leased house near the student flat and serves as the resident director for the year. The faculty director coordinates/teaches four courses throughout the year, which all students take. One of these courses is a Paideia 450 course, Understanding Contemporary Britain, another is one of the Director's choosing. The third and fourth courses are International Studies 135, Exploring Britain, which includes significant group travel throughout the United Kingdom, and Service Learning in the Midlands. The remaining coursework for this study abroad program is taken at the University of Nottingham in a variety of academic disciplines. Discovering a new educational system is both exhilarating and challenging.  We believe this program offers the opportunity to learn a great deal about Britain, about Europe, and about yourself.
The program will be in its 41st year in 2012-2013.  The opportunity to spend an academic year in England, study at the University of Nottingham, live in a largely self-regulated flat with 11 other Luther students, travel as a group throughout the UK and independently throughout Europe -- (and potentially Northern Africa and the Middle East) is a rich one.  Students and faculty directors throughout the years have enjoyed the many possibilities this program affords.  Studying alongside British and other international students can be very challenging.  Discovering a new educational system is exhilarating and frustrating at the same time.  We believe this program offers the opportunity to learn a great deal about Britain, about Europe, and about yourself.
